Inclusion of a Microbioreactor System in the maxXpress Platform for Cell Line & Process Development

Introduction
Requirements for rapid cell line and process development have pushed more and more process runs to a higher throughput in smaller scale. Tight time lines are very important when developing a platform approach for an antibody program from cell line development to production of clinical material. Evaluation of cell culture media and additives, as well as process parameter optimisation, can be very time consuming. The aim of the implementation of a micro bioreactor system was therefore to find an approach where cell culture media and additives can be tested and at the same time have control over bioreactor process parameters to facilitate the scale up of the bioreactor process.

Conclusions
Platform strategy with short timelines requires reliable expression system, high throughput technology and short lead times for protein analyses. Implementation of microbioreactor system enables more efficient cell line and process development. More data can be generated in a shorter time. Several clones can be taken further for process development in bioreactor conditions.
